The Unbearable Lightness of Being

"The brain appears to possess a special area which we might call poetic memory and which records everything that charms or touches us, that makes our lives beautiful...Love begins with a metaphor. Which is to say, love begins at the point when a woman enters her first word into our poetic memory..."

Calling all political geeks...

I have to say, after last night, I am truly inspired by this country. I am motivated by the number of people who turned out last night to express their opinions and cast their vote at caucus. I have long believed that the right to vote is one of the most sacred rights we possess as Americans - the ability to choose our leaders is the basic building blocks of our country and our elections are carried out in the manner our forefathers desinged for us.

I have been on a soapbox for years about this. I have encouraged people to vote, I have volunteered in voting precints, and I have provided resources about every candidate so that people can make informed choices about who they choose to lead us. I do this because, in addition to voter apathy, my second biggest pet peeve are the single issue voters - the ones that only vote Republican, for example, because they are anti-abortionists. It just drives me crazy because the election, a candidate, and their political platform represent so much more than that.

This election, the issue on everyone's mind is undoubtedly the war in Iraq. And, I love the fact that there are people who are motivated to express their opinions - who are voting in caucus - just to demonstrate that. I am so happy that there are candidates on both sides of the race that are inspiring America. People want this change and they're ready for it.
